MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Live Festival Project

Working as part of a dynamic group on a live project with Manchester International Festival, we were asked to design the Interior's of the two glass houses featured in Albert Square. As a group we decided to look into rituals within different cultures as MIF is all about bringing people together. We looked into the seven continents and countries within these continents and started by looking at the typical eating habits of a few different cultures. We looked at ways we could incorporate ‘seven’ into the interior and furniture design of the space. We came up with the idea of snake stools, consisting of seven blocks tied together by a single piece of rope to show the continents coming together as one. The stools can be turned to create storage space, but also they have features such as stacking and turning to suit the desired form of the space. We wanted to try and accommodate for all types of cultures and make this a feature in our design, hence the different levels of seating

Along side the snake stools we had an idea of creating an app in which users can explore the different cultures, watch how the snake stools work and also scan bar-codes to get previews of their food.
